Intra-Ocular Lenses (IOLs)
in Dalton, Georgia
Your eye is equipped with a natural crystalline lens that moves within your eye to help you focus on the world around you. As we age, that lens hardens and expands, affecting your ability to focus. When a cataract develops, that same lens becomes cloudy and discolored, affecting the way we see light and colors. The doctors at Professional Eye Associates can restore your view of the world by removing the hardened and/or cloudy lens and replacing it with an intraocular lens (an IOL). Professional Eye Associates is proud to be the only provider in Northwest Georgia to offer all of the current technologies to our patients.
There are several IOLs to choose from, depending upon your condition, your needs, and the vision correction required.
Standard Monofocal IOL
The standard monofocal IOL has been used very successfully over the past 20 years. These lenses provide clear focused vision at one range, usually distance vision. Most recipients of this lens require eyeglasses for near and intermediate vision.
Crystalens®
Professional Eye Associates is pleased to offer our patients Crystalens®, the world's first accommodative intraocular lens (IOLs). Crystalens® is inserted into the eye just like the standard IOL, but is then attached to the eye's muscle. The Crystalens® mimics your natural lens, moving with the muscle of your eye ("accommodation") to naturally shift your focus from near to distance, and all points in between.
ReSTOR®
Another exciting option for our patients is the new ReSTOR® multifocal intraocular lens (IOL). Using revolutionary technology called apodized diffractive technology, this lens is designed to diffract light in such a way to allow the eyes to focus at a variety of distances - near, far, and intermediate. According to the results of U.S. clinical trials:
- 99% of recipients are able to drive a car without glasses or contacts;
- 97% of recipients can read the newspaper without reading glasses or bifocals;
- 90% of recipients can shave or apply makeup without glasses or contacts;
- 74% of recipients can read the stock quotes in the newspaper without reading glasses or bifocals.
ReZoom®
The new ReZoom® multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) is another option for our patients. The ReZoom® lens works like a bifocal lens inside the eye. This patented optic design uses a visual "zone" technology. These visual zones divide the lens into five different areas, each designed for different lighting and focal distances.
Choosing the Right Lens
Each of these lenses is being used successfully throughout the United States and Georgia, bringing freedom from glasses to many. To determine which lens is right for you, our cataract surgeons will consider your current vision and overall health as well as your lifestyle and hobbies in order to make a recommendation.
