Amblyopia ("Lazy Eye")
Amblyopia is poor vision in an eye that did not develop normal sight during early childhood. As the dominant eye does all of the work, the non-dominant, or amblyopic, eye becomes progressively weaker. Amblyopia is caused by any condition that affects the normal use of the eyes, and may be inherited. It is most often caused by strabismus (see below), near- or far-sightedness, or childhood cataract. The good news is, if detected early in childhood, amblyopia can be corrected and normal vision restored by strengthening the weaker eye.
Strabismus ("Crossed Eyes")
Strabismus is a condition of abnormal deviation or alignment of one eye in relation to the other is caused by a lack of muscle coordination between the eyes, causing the eyes to point in different directions. The eyes are unable to focus simultaneously on a single point.
