Important Message to Eye Care Patients regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic:

Are you having an eye problem and can't come to the office to see your eye doctor? Well, we have an option for you!
We would like to announce beginning Monday, March 30th
, we are offering Telemedicine services for patients who cannot travel to the office. Telemedicine is a virtual doctor visit using a secure online video and audio system, and can be done in the safety of your own home using a computer or smart phone. This is a covered service through most insurance carriers. Please call our office at 706-226-2020 to learn more.

For everyone’s health and safety, ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other doctors are being urged by medical and governmental agencies to see only patients for urgent or emergent problems during the coronavirus pandemic.

This is important for two reasons:
• To limit contact between patients and staff in offices, waiting rooms, exams rooms, and surgical facilities to reduce the spread of the coronavirus;
• To conserve vital disposable medical supplies (like masks, gloves, face shields, and sanitizing wipes, etc.) so they can be used in hospitals where they are most needed right now.

Urgent care is defined as medical care provided for illnesses or injuries that require prompt attention but are typically not of such seriousness as to require the services of an emergency room. Emergency care is defined as medical care for conditions requiring prompt medical attention due to a sudden change in the eye or visual health.  If you’re uncertain whether your condition is urgent or emergent, contact us immediately at (706) 226-2020.

You will likely find that routine patient visits, such as annual dilated eye exams, exams for glasses, and general eye health check-ups, will likely be rescheduled to a later date. Any non-emergent or non-urgent eye surgeries and procedures, for example cataract surgery, will also be postponed. But any sudden vision loss, eye pain, or eye injuries are urgent and should NOT be postponed. Please contact the office immediately.

If you have a scheduled appointment, contact
us BEFORE traveling to the office to check if your appointment has been cancelled.  And if you have had a fever, cough, shortness of breath, exposed to anyone with these symptoms within the last 2 weeks, or had a positive test for COVID-19 (coronavirus) within the last 2 weeks, please call the office immediately to reschedule your appointment.

Plan Ahead: Contact the office to confirm your appointment and to discuss the safety precautions you should take for the visit. Please be assured, Professional Eye Associates has instituted strict protocols: screening and cleaning procedures, restricting the number of patients in the waiting room, reducing wait times in the office, asking family members to wait in their cars, and maintaining a 6 foot distance are some of the many processes put in place to protect and preserve the health and safety of our patients and our office staff.

Call our office for guidance in the following situations:
• You have an eye disease (such as macular degeneration or diabetes-related retinopathy) and receive regular eye injections;
• You have any vision treatments that are routinely applied at the eye care provider’s office, and you are uncertain whether these are considered urgent care;
• You suddenly lose or notice changes in your vision (such as blurred vision, wavy areas of vision, or blank spots in your field of vision);
• You notice a lot of new floaters or flashes of light in your vision;
• You have eye pain, headache, red eye, nausea, and vomiting.
