Your First Visit With Us
At Professional Eye Associates, creating warm and positive patient experiences is one of our top priorities, starting from your very first visit. When you arrive, our entire team will be focused on catering to your needs. Whether you need a routine eye exam, advanced treatment, or specialized surgical care, you’ll enjoy state-of-the-art technology and individualized attention delivered by a team of trusted eye doctors and surgeons.
From the moment you step into one of our offices, our welcoming team is here to ensure a stress-free experience. At check-in, our staff will confirm your information and answer any questions you may have to make sure you feel comfortable and confident about your visit. When you arrive to check in:
- Please be prepared to provide all of your medical and vision plan insurance cards.
- We will need the names and phone numbers of those with whom we can contact in case of an emergency and with whom we are permitted to share your medical information.
- Understand that we will obtain and place on file a digital photograph of each patient. This helps to protect you against identity or insurance fraud.
- Be prepared to pay any co-pays or past-due balances at check-in.
- Please note that patients are taken back according to their appointment time, not arrival time.
- All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied to their appointment by at least one parent or legal guardian.
Please arrive at our office 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to complete the registration process if you have not done so using Phreesia.
Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to check in. While we make every effort to accommodate our patients, late arrivals may result in longer wait times, or you may have to reschedule your appointment.
If you are unable to keep your appointment, please give us at least 24 hours of notice so that we may accommodate other patients.
What to Expect at Your Eye Exam
Your first visit includes a thorough eye exam to assess your vision health. You will be greeted by one of our highly trained, ophthalmic technicians for the preliminary part of your eye history and examination. We’ll discuss your overall medical history, current medications, and any concerns you may have before you meet your eye doctor. It is helpful to bring your current medications to your appointment.
Please be aware that some testing requires eye dilation, which can temporarily make it difficult to see. While each individual is different, vision effects from dilation often can range from 1-4 hours. Many people feel comfortable driving while dilated, but we do not recommend driving if you feel like your vision is affected. If you do not feel comfortable driving while dilated, please arrange transportation from our facility to ensure your safety.
Refraction Exams for Glasses and Contacts
If you need glasses or contact lenses, our optometrists perform precise refraction exams to determine the prescription that works best for you. Our optical centers at all four locations offer a variety of lenses and frames to suit your vision needs and personal style. For refractions, please bear in mind that:
- Refractions are NOT covered by Medicare or most medical insurance plans. We will not file the charge for the refraction with your health insurance unless we know that your plan covers the refraction charge.
- Please note that our office fee for performing the refraction is $50. This fee is due at the time of service and is in addition to any co-payment your plan may require. If your insurance plan pays for the refraction, we will reimburse you accordingly.
